Transfer a California title

Move a California vehicle into the buyer’s name, including the use tax and transfer fees shown on the record.

What you need

• The signed title, or a REG 227 if the title is lost
• Odometer disclosure when the vehicle requires it
• Smog certification, unless the vehicle is exempt
• Buyer and seller names that match the paperwork

What happens

1. We open a transfer and price tax and fees from the sale.
2. You upload or mail the signed documents. This site saves the request first.
3. The transfer is submitted and the new title is mailed.
